Back to Atlanta

Went back to Atlanta for a few days for a client.  I stayed the night because I was going to see some old friends that I used to work with.  We had a great time!  The waitress at BW3 was going around asking people if they wanted to buy raffle tickets to win a TV.  I said what is the money going to?  She said it was to help families adopt kids that were not able to afford all the expenses.  I said sure, I will buy 5 ($20).  Next thing I hear my first name and a botched last name.  I knew they were saying my name.  I showed my ID and BAM a new 32 inch HD TV!   Now I do not have to go buy one.  We can watch the Bowl games on the new LCD.  I was very excited.  Then it dawned on me....how the heck am I going to get this home??  Luckily my smart phone directed me to the nearest Kinkos and I shipped it ground so it should be at my house in a few days.  I just don't think that it would have went through security too well.  I hope those FedEx guys do not break it.

LeBron touches down in Ohio (AP)

Should be an interesting game this eve.

Miami Heat's LeBron James(notes), left, shoots as Detroit Pistons' Richard Hamilton(notes) (32) defends in the first quarter of an NBA basketball game in Miami, Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.

Fire trucks welcomed LeBron James home. Police and security officials escorted him from there. Making his first trip to Ohio as a visiting player, James and the Miami Heat had problems with their plane upon arriving in Cleveland. The aircraft had a "flap issue" early Thursday as it approached Hopkins International Airport.

ATL

They call it Hotlanta but it is everything but HOT here.  The temps are barely out of the 40's.  I am here with a few others from my company trying to land a really big account.  I do not mind the travel except that I miss my family and my eating habits basically go down the crapper.  I am still trying to fit in one more run before the Reindeer Run on December 4th.  I really hope that I can get to that race.  I think it is supposed to be very cold.

We shall see.

Happy Thanksgiving

It has been a rough week.  My babies have been sick and I have not gotten a lot of sleep.  Work has been very busy and not a lot of time to relax and spend with family.  I hope to have some time in the coming weeks.

Last Day in Denver

This trip was pretty good.  I was impressed with myself for running three days while I was here.  The running seemed to be much more difficult for me.  I would like to blame the altitude but I may just blame my out of shapeness.  Anyway, I learned a lot and of course at too much food.  I really look forward to getting home and hugging the fam.

Denver is Cool

Snowed for the first time here in Denver.  Had to brush off the car when I got out of training.  Speaking of training...very interesting.  Did not realize there was this much associated with wireless.

Just Can't Decide

Blogging does take effort.  Regardless of what you may think or hear, it does.  You have to find time to blog, then you have to find topics to blog about.  I do not make up anything on my blog so I have to live a pretty interesting life (yea right) in order to maintain a cool blog.  I mean, lets face it, there are only four people that actually read the blog, me, ERK, KG, and TG.  That is not a lot of people.  I have always struggled for a way to send my blog out to the masses.  I probably need to be 25 with big breasts for the world to read about my boring life.  Actually my life is not that boring.  Things happen to me ya know.  Like right now, I am writing this blog post in Atlanta airport in a place called Juke Joint.  Very small and hot, like I could take a knife and just cut the steamy air.  I was lucky enough to find a plug to fire up the laptop to write this.  See, this is interesting stuff.  This post is probably by far my longest post to date.  Off to Denver next week for a week.  I have been mapping out things that I want to see and places I want to go.  I am looking forward to the training.

Monday Morning Blog

Sure has been a few weeks since my last post.  Things have just been super crazy!  I have been travelling and trying to spend quality time with my family because I have been travelling so much.  I can tell you that we have been busy with my son's football.  We did get some apple picking in before the cold weather.  I did get a new car which I really enjoy driving.  Went to a retirement party for my dad.  That was really cool because all the kids got together and that does not happen too often.  Went a few times with the G's.  That is always fun and late.  Halloween is coming up real soon.  That is probably my second favorite 'holiday' behind Christmas.  I just like the dressing up part or maybe its the candy.

This Weekend was MUCH Better

Last week was pretty rough but I made it.  I was very much looking forward to spending some time out with ERK.  We did get a limo to take us to our first stop.

Clifton Wine Bar
We got there at about 5:30.  This place opens at 5.  We were the only ones in there for some time.  Bartender was the owner and very knowledgeable about wines.  I started off with a Malbec and ordered a meat and cheese plate.  Everything was awesome!  I would recommend this place.

Next we went to Lolita's in Tremont.  We did not stay too long,  Sat at the bar and drank some more wine.  The staff was very friendly and we always seem to be very comfortable in this place.  However, we wanted to go somewhere and watch some College Football.  We went to Treehouse but quickly turned around.

Ended up at Lago!
We had never been here.  We sat at the bar, first question, can we watch the football game?  Bartender quickly replied...Hell Yes!  So we stayed.  We had a few more glasses of wine before we ordered some food.  I had a fillet Mignon with some sort of noodle with cheese.  Was out of this world good stuff.  ERK ordered some ravioli with goat cheese, she still talks about how good it was.  I think we had a great time at this place and would be back sooner than later.  Great food, clean, great vibe!

Sure has been awhile

Yes, it has been some time since my last post.  Things have been super crazy.  I was in San Diego for a week.  That was an really cool trip.  I was able to hit up Karl Strauss beer garden and Stone Brewing beer garden.  Both were really cool with great beer.  I have to say that Stone was better.  Only cause I'm partial and get Stone in Ohio.  Downtown SD was really crazy, lots of people.  I was wearing my Pleepleus shirt and before I knew it, the manager was dragging me inside buying me a shot and a beer because I was wearing that shirt.  That was pretty cool.  Overall great trip and would visit again!

Good thing I got home because on the Tuesday after I got home from SD, I developed an infection in my tooth that ended up getting a root canal.  Not too fun!  The pain was horrible but the actual root canal part was not too bad.  I was so tired from not sleeping from the pain, I think i dosed off during the procedure.

Other news, I bought a new car.  The Golden Nugget was on its last mile.  I ended up with a 2007 Acura TL.  I look forward to picking it up in the next few days.

San Diego

So far SD has been pretty cool.  I went to Karl Strauss brewey and had some good pork chops and beer.  This is the only pic I have.  They have a bier garden vibe which is pretty cool.  I hope to making it up to Stone and have a few pints.

Till then, I hoist!

Been a few weeks

Since my last post.  It has been two weeks since I started my new job.  So far I am really loving it!  The technology I get to touch is awesome.  I have never been in a role where I have to know so much of everything.  This should be a great challenge for me.  I am really looking forward to it all....

Anyway, today I am brewing up 20 gallons of beer.  I split the batch, 10 gallons of WaxinTaxin IPA and 10 gallons of Robutso Portero.  I know, where do I get these names.  My director of Sales and Marketing would probably change them (KG).  I am also all packed up and ready to spend a week in San Diego.  I wish for vacation but it is for training.  Regardless, I have never been to SD and look forward to seeing a new city.  I guess that is all for now.  I am sure I will post when I am in SD.

Till then, keep it real!

Weather is great.  Smoking ribs and hanging out.  What could be better.  Oh, ordering your own home brew at the Greenhouse Tavern!  Awesome stuff.  I'll be heading to San Diego next Sunday.  I'm sure I will be providing updates.

One Day After Hump Day

There has been a lot going on since my last post.  I did get back from Indianapolis and put in my two week notice.  I start my new job 8/16/10.  I am very excited to start a new chapter.  I really enjoyed my job and I was not even looking.  This sorta just happened and I had to take it.  Anyway, my in-laws celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Wow that sure is a long time and they sure are great examples of what a great marriage should be.  I supplied all the wine for the party and everyone loved it.  I do like it when a plan comes together.

Kids continue to keep me busy although no camping trips planned as of yet.  I will be going fishing with my son.  I hope this time he catches his first one!  That should be exciting.

I have been in a real running rut.  I just can't get into a groove of waking up in the morning and running.  I feel awful.  Something needs to change.  I chalk it up to the stresses in my life.  Hopefully things will settle down and I will be able to focus.  I do not want to end up on the 'Biggest Loser'

One a lighter note.  I did drop my beer off at the resturant.  That was very exciting.  I should have my brewery and beer name on their menu by Friday.  Just seeing it there will be awesome!  I will also need to bring in some other samples.  Everyone did enjoy the samples I brought.  Thanks again KG!

Till the next post...keep it real!

Indy

Spending a few days in Indianapolis. For work, not pleasure. This city is similar to Cleveland, the people, the bars, and the houses. Wonder if I would ever move here. Currently sitting in 'The Grill' having a pint. Decent vibe, band playing in background and patrons are aloud to smoke in here...brutal.

Fun Fun Fun

Friday was my last day of training.  Wow, spending a week at home staring at a computer screen while listening and watching a slideshow is not my idea of training.  We'll see if it ever pays off.  Anyway, got pretty much every piece of camping gear in the car and went to pick up my dad around 3:30.  I had plans to take my kids camping for two days.  What was I thinking? (I'll come back to this)  Setting up the campsite always takes time and lots of sweat.  The tent itself takes me about 30 minutes, then have to make the fire and get the kids some food.  First night was not so bad except for the snoring.  Was unbearable!  Napkins in my ears were no help.  The 80+ degree temperature made it worse.

Needless to say I made it through the night with very little sleep.  Woke up, made some breaksfast and headed out fishing with the kids.  Welcoming another scorcher of a day!  I think it hit 92.  Walked around the camp ground, went to the park for a bit, and tried to get a golf cart ($75, no thanks).  It was one of those days that was so hot you really didnt want to do anything but sit in the shade and pour cold water all over yourself.  By about 9pm started to get cloudy and even saw lighting.  Not too sweet, rain was just around the corner.  Thankfully, the rain did not come till about 11pm and the kids slept right through it.  I really had no desire to clean up the camp site and leave at midnight.  Woke up about 6:30 am and started to get everything back in the car.  Got outta dodge about 7:30 and went to Bob Evans for breakfast.  I really had no desire to spend anymore time at that place.

Lessons learned:
1) Dont go camping in July, its too hot
2) Bring extra hot dogs for fishing
3) Go to the pool to cool off
4) Bring beverages for self medication
5) Maybe not stay two nights, one is plenty

Bad 'Decision'

I thought this was a very fitting letter:

Open Letter to Fans from Cavaliers Majority Owner Dan Gilbert

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER 'KING' WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner
Cleveland Cavaliers

The Decision

I have been reading all the news today about where Lebron James will end up.  Some say Miami, New Jersey, New York, or stay in Cleveland.  Here is my opinion:

Miami:  I don't think so.  Wade and Bosch both said they are going to Miami.  If James was going, why was he not part of that announcment.  James was trying to recruit Bosch to come to Cleveland, he refused.  It would be a real bitch move to then follow Bosch to Miami in Wade's house.

New York:  Possibly but they already signed Stoudimire (spelling) for a max deal.  They have enough for another max deal but wont win any rings with King James and Stoudimire.

New Jersey:  No.  They do not have the talent.

Cleveland:  I think James will be staying in Cleveland.  He talks about the debacle of Jose Mesa, the drive, the fumble yadda yadda yadda.  How could he think of moving anywhere.  I also think the Bosch sort of snubbed him by not coming to Cleveland (btw Bosch is an idiot for leaving 30 mill on the table).  James has roots here and has a passion for his town.  You cant be King of Akron if you are in NYC.  Cleveland is the only place James should be thinking, if he is thinking long term.  His brand, his image, his fans!  I know his concern is signing a 6 year deal then having bad knees and never getting a ring by age 31.  Quite frankly, this can happen anywhere.  There is no gurantee that he will ring any rings in Miami or any other team.  Sports is funny like that.  You can sign the biggest contract of your life but if you blow out your knee, you're done.

Really at the end of the day life will go on where ever James lands.  Mr. Gilbert will then be determined as ever to bring a Championship to Cleveland.

Another 4th of July has Passed

I did have another jam packed weekend.  Was a rare 3-day weekend.  Friday I did have the pleasure of taking my kids to get some ice cream and walk around a bit.  That is always fun to see it melt all over their faces.  I did end up going out for a pint with a friend that has an opportunity for me (more on that later)

Saturday was very busy.  I had my nieces baptism at 11am.  This was about an hour away and we left kind of late (surprise surprise).  However, my son told me to NASCAR'it.  So I did and made it there with two minutes to spare.  After getting home the heat of the sun really started to get to me.  We had to get ready for another holiday party.  Got there about 6pm and had some food and plenty of laughs.  Kids got to be super late and didnt sleep in on Sunday :-( ...

Sunday did our church thing and headed over to ERS's nephew's house for his birthday party.  Yes he was born on the fourth of July, just like the movie title.  Went swimming and of course ate too many hamburgers.  A great time for sure!

Monday, sort of lounged around.  It was a real scorcher!  We were having some friends come over about five o'clock.  I had to get the grills going, the chairs out, and hamburgers made.  There is nothing like having your best friends come over with their own kids, eat good food and have some good beverages.

Then the neighbors dog was barking horribly!  I did end up calling the police.  I just had enough.  I tolerate too much when all I really ask is for a little respect.  I tried not the let that ruin my evening.

I think everyone had plenty to eat and drink.  The kids got bathed and started watching a few shows while the adults congregated in the kitchen and continued to discuss adult topics.

Overall it was a great weekend.  I really enjoy the few days off and spending the time with my family and friends.  That's what the weekends are for, right?

Another Birthday Weekend!

Ok so now I am officially 37 years old.  The Birthday came and went.  Not sure how I feel just yet being a year older but so far so good.  I did have a good birthday, got to spend with my kids and family.  I had to work late on Friday and did a whole bunch of yard work on Saturday so didnt really 'party' too much.  Which is probably for the better.  I was able to have a few adult beverages and overall had a good time.

Not the same Tuesday

Tuesday, June 21 2010 I took the day off.  I started brewing beer about 8am.  I was amazed at how fast I was going.  I did not want to start drinking just yet.  Finished 10 gallons in about 5.5 hours and finished the other shortly after.  This was the first time I have brewed 20 gallons.  I was very happy with the results.  Walked downstairs this morning and found all four containers are bubbling nicely and actively.  Will keep you posted.

Another Fun Filled Weekend

Friday I took off work about 1pm, for some reason I just couldnt get in the mood to work.  Anyway, drove home only to start mowing the lawn...yippee!  Ordered some pizza and shared a bottle of wine with ES.  Saturday was the first day of swimming lessons for my daughter.  I gladly took her and we both had a great time.  She loved being in the water kicking and blowing bubbles.  I was really impressed with the way she learned so quickly to 'swim' in the pool.  Went over to in-laws for some lunch because they were busy on Fathers day.  Saturday evening was the Ohio City Pub Crawl.  I was able to finish in 25:08, a mere 1 minute behind ES (yes I am catching up).  Afterwards had a great meal at GLBC and managed to take in a few pints.  Walked over to Garage bar to meet a few other couples.  Shared some stories and a few more pints and we were ready to go home about midnight.  I had to work at 7am on Sunday (Father's Day) so had to get to bed at a sorta reasonable time.  Worked from 7 to about 11:30 and then was greated by my kids.  They made me a really cool card.  We all got new fishing poles.  I am real excited to try those out!  Sunday afternoon was really cool.  Smoked up some ribs, chicken, potatoes, and corn.  I had my parents over for dinner and they really seemed to enjoy my smoking skills.

Its Monday and already looking forward to the next weekend, my birthday.  I'll be 37 (yikes)

Wish KG and fam would have been around to hang out with us on Saturday.  Hope your G-Ma is doing well man!

Another busy weekend...

Great Weekend!
Friday was pretty busy.  Went to a friends house for a brew session.  Then walked home, put the kitties to bed and had to bottle up six gallons of Pinot Noir.  Tastes great going in.  Will keep you posted on that progress.

Saturday, had my own brew session.  Sammy's Black EYE-PA!  Took me about 5 hours with clean up.  Already bubbling as it should be.

Sunday had my parents over for dinner.  I made a great italian dish.  My own meatballs!  Served with some red wine.  Then, out of the blue, my mom wanted to take my kitties home to spend the night.  What?  Are you kidding?  Ah yea!  So we furiously cleaned the kitchen when everyone left and walked up to the local watering hole and put a few pints back.  Always great to chat with ERS.

Happy Memorial Day! This is the weekend where we pay tribute to those that serve our country. I can't say enough about our troops that allow us to have bbq's, parades, and freedom. Without them, I don't know where we'd be. Thank you to all who serve and those who served! I'm here with my family in a free country. Everyone deserves what I have. Not my last post of the weekend.

Great Weekend! Just Fantastic

WOW! What a great weekend.
Friday took the day off work and was sorta recovering from Thursday night. I volunteered at the Cleveland Food Bank the day before and went out. Anyway, Friday, really did not do too much, took the kids for a swim and had somelunch. Meet another couple at the Nauti Mermaid on West 6th for some food and drinks before headed east. We were able to go to the Mumford and Sons show at Beachland Ballroom.

This was a fantastic venue to have a concert. The place was very small and everything was nearby. Did not have to walk for too far for the bathroom or a beverage, my hats off to the bartender Julius! Great show! This was the first show I had ever been to that the Live music sounded just like the CD.

Saturday was slow to start. Was tired from the night before. I was able to get my support pillar up for my new porch thanks to some help from my oldest brother. Hung out and really didnt do too much.

Sunday, got the grass cut up and cut up some wood. Started smoking a London broil for dinner. Started a fire and had a few pints which turned in to six. Sat by the fire for a long time with ERS. We did manage to put away two bottles of wine. I know, I'm able to switch from beer to wine. Went to bed really late and dread going to work. I know the day is going to drag drag drag!

What to do? What to do?

Really looking forward to the end of the day.  Its been a long week and its only Thursday.  Good thing I have Friday off.  I am looking forward to the three day weekend.  So lately I have been reading other people's blogs (I think I blogged this before)  in an effort to find out what I want to blog about on a day to day basis.  Some people take their blogging very seriious while others do it for fun.  I have not decided which direction I want to take my blogging.  Or if this blogging format is right for me.  I see some blogs have hundreds of followers.  I have no idea how many are following me, if any.  Anyway...

I hope to start running again this Sunday.  I can not believe how sore my legs have been since the Half Marathon.  WOW!  They have been sore and advil does not affect me one bit.  Thankfully this does not prevent me from sleeping during the night.  I have been debating on what I want to do next for running.  Continue with some 5k's or go for the Marathon?  Maybe tri-athelon?  Who knows...have to rest my legs and start to put one foot in front of the other.
